GREENSBORO COLLEGE ENDS SU MEN'S SOCCER SEASON

Fourth-seeded Greensboro College ended Shenandoah University’s men’s soccer season with a 3-0 victory Tuesday afternoon in the USA South Conference Tournament quarterfinals.

Greensboro (11-4-3) led 1-0 at the break before scoring a pair of second-half goals over the Hornets (6-15).

Andrew Clark tallied the game-winner for the Pride on a goal off a rebound in the 26th minute; GC’s second-half goals came in the 55th and 67th minutes.

SU keeper Brian Garretson made six saves in the losing effort. Greensboro outshot Shenandoah 16-8 with the two teams splitting four corner kicks.

CNU SENDS WOMEN'S TEAM PACKING

Homestanding and second-seeded Christopher Newport University ousted Shenandoah University from the USA South Conference Women’s Soccer Tournament Tuesday night with an 8-1 quarterfinal round victory.

CNU (13-6) opened the scoring with a Brittany Revels goal at 12:45 and never looked back against the Hornets (5-13). Christopher Newport advances on to the tournament semi-finals, where they meet No. 3 Greensboro in the semi-finals at Methodist University on Friday.

Sam Ciaravino and Emily Chesbro, who assisted Revels’ tally, scored in the 21st and 26th minutes before the Captains added three more goals to finish out the first half. Ciaravino had one of those goals and Britta McDonnell two.

Freshman Krista Pattison broke through for SU with an unassisted goal at 65:21, but Christopher Newport answered back with another goal just 24 seconds later.

Shenandoah keeper Samantha LoPreto made six saves.

Christopher Newport took 24 of the game’s 26 shots and held a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks.
